April 29, 2025 – President Christopher Pritchard – After so many amazing guest speakers, Prez Christopher decided to do a presentation on a topic that was greatly impacting our region. The president spent many hours researching and studying the Python Snake. He spent so much time that Rotary District 6960 appointed him to lead the District Project on the Mighty Python. Many of the Rotarians had a great fear of snakes. Thus, the president decided to cut out the fearful parts of his presentation. The presentation was very educational despite the reduced slides.
The Rotarians received many interesting facts about the Python Snake. The Python Snake can consume animals as small as a rat and as large as a deer. The Python Snake can cause many problems for animals and humans. One of the ways Floridians have decided to get rid of the snakes is by having a yearly Python Snake contest. The winners are awarded for the largest snake captured and for the number of Python Snakes destroyed. Unless hunting for the snakes during this period, people are encouraged to call animal control when sighting a Python Snake.
The Rotary Club of Naples Bay donated $500.00 towards the Python Snake Research Project. We are proud that President Christopher Pritchard is leading the project to learn more about the Mighty Python Snake.
